Money Matters

Hi everyone,
Is everyone as anxious as I am to have the election decided! I am hoping when it is over, people will feel some relief and start feeling more comfortable in the economy. This too shall pass, it always does. It can be difficult to go through. We have noticed a slow down in my husband's business the last 3 weeks. Work has really dropped off. So we are hoping things turn around soon and those with mortgage problems will get some help. Being one in the middle class I am hoping for relief for that group in the near future.
Best wishes through this tough economy and always.... Sandy

Boomers back in school...

Good day!
I recently read an article about a Community College in my area getting a fairly large enrollment from 40, 50 and 60 year olds. I know I have read that a fair amount of boomers feel they will be working into retirement years. The article was stressing that many of these people were now looking for training in something they would enjoy and find fulfilling. I am at this point also. I have been racking my brain of late to find where I would like to work the next 10 years or so. I would like to make a contribution to the community. Anyone else out there having similar feelings?

A four day Outing

We went on a 4 day trip to a place called East lake. It is in Central Oregon. 4 couples went it was a relaxing and fun time. We all spent time fishing, barbecuing, walking and campfires every night. Time sure goes fast when you are out of town on a mini-vacation! Everyone there caught a fish except me. It became funny after awhile!

Vacation time

Good day!
Getting ready for a small little trip to East Lake. It is a high lake outside of Bend, Oregon. We are renting a cabin and staying 4 days. 4 couples are going, it will be a great time. The fishing is very good there. We plan to catch rainbow trout, brown trout and Kokanee. Yum!

Anyone going on a trip in the near future?

Sun Protection

Tis the season for sun protection. I was not aware of a difference between sun block and sun screen. The sun block works immediately and the sun screen needs to be on for 1/2 hour to reach the strength to work. It needs to be reapplied every two hours also. The other very important item to protect are your eyes. Without correct sunglasses and a sun hat would be very helpful too, eye damage happens just like skin damage. Un-protected eyes can get cateracts and macular degeneration much easier, than protected eyes.

The 45 to 60ish stomach

Good day! Thank you for stopping by. I am wondering if anyone in their middle age that has acquired the middle age belly bulge, has found a way to get rid of it. Most of the things I read on this subject, or pictures of people in magazines on the subject are younger women. That is when I had no stomach. My feeling on the subject is it has to do with depleting hormones. I am not interested in taking hormones so that would not be an option. Just about every friend I have at my age (50 or so), is experiencing this new stomach they didn't use to have. I realize there are some women who never have this problem and I am very happy for them. If anyone out there has a trick to shrink the belly, please post a comment.

Have a great day! Sandy

Boomers hearing

Recently I have been reading they estimate 15% of baby boomers suffer some hearing loss. They blame the rock and rolls years and other things such as; we were the first generation to have these loud noises on a regular basis. Gas lawn mowers, chain saws and noisy traffic. There will be many of us getting hearing aids, more so than any previous generation. It would be nice if we had a universal type of health coverage as many European countries have. Many more people in Europe have hearing aids because they are paid for by the government.

Gas saving ideas

Everyday I hear someone talking of the recent gas prices. I am lucky to work a few miles from home and drive a relatively frugal gas drinker. There are some websites that can help with this problem affecting so many! www.gasbuddy.com, www.edmunds.com/advice/fueleconomy/articles/106842/article.html, http://www.aaaorid.com/news/gas_prices.asp

The link above is to find car pools. It gets a great deal of hits so you may have to check back.
Keeping the car tuned, the tires filled with air and a clean air filter will help some.
Share your ideas!

How is everyone?

Good day,

My life has been a bit busy and disrupted in the recent past. My best friend Donna, past away yesterday morning after a two year battle with cancer. It is very strange to think she will not be here anymore and that we won't be visiting and spending time together. We knew each other for 37 years. Not possible to replace a friend like that. She was a very special person and will be missed by many.

I will post again soon.... Best to all. Talk to you soon.

Greetings!

Welcome all!

Sheboomers is a new website and will be growing as time goes by. I hope you all find something of interest on it. There are plans to be adding more subjects and info on a wide array of topics.

Living in the Northwest, we have been under a super soaker for quite awhile. Today, though, it is 52 degrees with sun breaks and I am about to go off for a walk. A friend and I are getting out and walking as much as possible. We both want to improve our shapes in the coming year.

What are all of you ladies up to?
